Sanderson / & Co / Camberwell // Trade / (Seated Lion) / Mark. Aerated Water Torpedo Applied top, 13 ounce, aqua. 237 mm. 1880s
Very Good. There is a fine milky, hazy type internal stain. There is no etching associated with this stain, it will polish out. The very upper lip has a couple of tiny flakes, both alongside each other, they are about 3 x 2 mm, but very shallow, right on the outer edge of the lip. There is an associated scratch coming down from this just over a centimetre on an angle, again just on the surface. There are some pitted type scratch marks externally, on the trade mark side there are some coming down the left side of the top and coming in above the word trade, and then across to the right of the word as well. The lions front legs have similar scratching as well as in front towards the bottom of the lion. A few more of these scratches are at the pointed base. The embossing side has a few pit marks and scratches, mainly to the embossing which is extremely bold. The D of Sanderson has a small chip to the upper rear section of the letter. The R after this and the S has some scratching. A few other letters have some lighter surface scratching. This is a superb rarity, and with such stunning detailed embossing, this example will look great after a polish. Grade: 7.8 Estimate: $2500 - 3000
