Veritable Moelle De Boeuf / (Cow grazing) / L.T. Piver / 10, Boulevr de Strasbourg / Paris / and Regent Street, 160, London. Inscribed under the glaze under the lid: 749. Pot Lid Beef Extract Blue print on white lid. Round. 70 mm diameter. 1850s
Very Good. Patch of missing glaze between 10 and 11 o'clock on edge at first looked like a repair, but is not at all, it is simply where the glaze has not gone over the original print. In this small patch the print looks black. Some discoloured scratches to the front surface and a few small spots of rust. The under side flange has two larger chips, 18 x 5 mm, with a small flake associated on the external flange. Another chip further around is 13 x 4 mm. There are three other shallow and small flakes around the bottom flange. One small mark on the edge has a fine 25 mm hairline going along the very bottom edge of the flange. Comes with a fitting base, but not original as these lids had a base with blue scenes printed on them too. Base has some chips a couple of hairlines is discoloured with crazing. Grading is for lid only. This lid has a sticker from Harmer Rooke Galleries where it would have been purchased many years ago, most likely from the Ben Swanson collection. Grade: 7.35 Estimate: $250 - 300
