W. I. Thrower / Trade (Elephant) Mark / Launceston. No potters mark. Ginger Beer Cork Stoppered Impressed, blue top. 13 oz. 172 mm. 1880s
Excellent. A few marks around the upper lip where the glaze has missed from manufacture, these are all small as well. Around the left and rear shoulder is a band between the white area and blue glaze where there is no glaze, again from the making process. The front and left side under the base has three flake chips. The first is closer to the front and more on the side, over 10 x 5 mm. The next two are mainly under the base, 9 x 5 mm and 10 x 5 mm respectively. At the rear is a small area where the glaze has worn through, about 10 x up to 5 mm. Under the front right base are two more very shallow flakes, 5 x 4 mm and 7 x 4 mm. There are a few other small flakes around this base area. It is quite possible that these were from the making process as well, one or two of them have associated potters marks and glaze drips near them that make them look like they have been there for a long time. Grade: 8.5 Estimate: $600 - 700
