R. Manley / Wangaratta. No potters stamp. Household Demijohn Two tone, tan top, impressed. Gallon. 312 mm. 1900s
Poor. Repaired top. Unable to tell how much of the top has been repaired, except that the entire top has been repainted. There is a section on the front and to the right over 60 mm where you can just see under the paintwork a bit of a line which may be where a chip was filled, there is a similar one to the rear over 40 mm. Where these may be filled chips, they may simply be splits in the filler that was used? The glaze around the shoulder has many small glaze flakes, which would likely be glaze misses from manufacture. The body is unglazed as it would have had a wicker basket around it. There are some bulges in the body, including one that has 2 x 15 mm hairlines and a 25 mm hairline emanating from it. Some spots of discolouration. Very rare demijohn from country Victoria. Grade: 4 Estimate: $250 - 300
