Potters mark: Pearson & Co / Whittington / Moor / Chesterfield. Demijohn Ginger beer Internal thread. Tan coloured upper glaze, cream coloured lower glaze. Black print. Spigot hole. 2 gallon. 390 mm. 1920s
Very Good. Has two lip chips. One at the front is 17 x 11 mm, and one at the right is 11 x 8 mm. The original wire handle is rusty. There are some light scratches to the glaze where the wire handle rubs under the neck. A small lump from manufacture to the right of the potters stamp. The rear upper body has a small pottery blow out, 9 x 5 mm. Some scuffs and scratches to the glaze to be found, nothing at all major. A few discoloured spots and a splash of green paint or two. Under the base on the right side is a pottery pull type chip, 24 x 14 mm, likely from making, a similar double chip, 17 x 10 mm overall under base below front tap, another 5 or 6 smaller and shallow under base flakes around the circumference, all of which are most likely from when this great piece was removed from the potters wheel. The spigot hole is entirely damage free, there is a tiny bit of wear to be found on it, remnants of a cork remain inside, and the small lower hole is plugged with a small piece of dowel. Obviously, there is no tap in place. A stunning piece, this is one of the rarest pictorial country Victorian demijohns, possibly only three or four of these are known. Grade: 7.2 Estimate: $8000 - 10000
