W. H. Logan / Hillgrove. Potters stamp: Mashman / Chatswood. (New South Wales) Ginger Beer Cork Stoppered Salt glaze. Impressed. 13 oz. 170 mm. 1880s
Fair. Glaze flake to lip, a few little nicks as well and some wear. Right shoulder has a lump of pottery from manufacture. From this, however, a couple of hairlines go a short way up, one goes a short way down and then another goes down to the shoulder, down the body across a glaze flake, down to right of impression where there is another thin glaze flake, then down from this to the potters stamp at the base where it meets up with a 10 x 5 mm chip. The hairline also goes across from the thin mid flake into the impressed main stamp before disappearing, very hard to see it here. Some glaze wear to the shoulder with one two flakes as well. Small impact flake to left rear body has a couple of fine hairlines angling up to the shoulder and just above. Hairline comes down from this to about the mid body where it joins a horizontal hairline travelling straight across from about the W of the impressed stamp around to the rear over about 120 mm. These are actually quite hard to see, but are there, hence need to be mentioned. 20 x 12 mm chip to front base edge. A few other small chips, flakes and some wear to base edge. A bit of surface crazing. A rare bottle! Grade: 5.8 Estimate: $100 - 150
