Cuming Smith & Co / Sickle (Sickle) Brand / Melbourne. No potters mark. (Victoria) Demijohn Impressed Salt Glaze. Impressed. 1 Gallon. 345 mm. 1910s
Excellent. Amazingly crude, I am not sure where these were made, but they were clearly slip cast with a mould going straight up the front and back, including right through the middle of the handle. On oblong shape, quite unique really. Glazed chip to rear lip from making. Chip like mark to left rear body is amongst and probably part of a kiln kiss. Glazed chip to front base edge. Under this under the base is a large but shallow flake that is likely a pottery pull. The right side of this piece has crude lumps and dark colours over a fair proportion of it, from making. Quite a lovely piece, looks ancient but is certainly from the 1900s. Grade: 8 Estimate: $$50.00 - $100.00
