Bell with Anchor as Handle. S. S. Ormiston. Metalware Bell Bell with Anchor as Handle. S. S. Ormiston. 155 mm. 1940s
Very Good. The Ormiston served as a troopship during the war, her ports of call were the Pacific Islands, New Guinea, New Britain and the Solomon Islands. In 1939, The Melbourne Steamship Company, Limited, in conjunction with the A.U.S.N. Company Limited, announced that the S. S. Ormiston had commenced round tours, calling at Melbourne, Burnie, Devonport, Sydney, Brisbane and return to Sydney. This bell was purchased on one of these tours by the parents of the vendor many years ago. It is stamped on the inner bell: Angus & Coote, Sydney. Although unmarked as silver, it has black tarnishing reminiscent of silver wares. The handle shaped like an anchor appears to be brass. Grade: N/A Estimate: $40 - 60
