Rolling Pin embossed with Van Cooth (reversed). Would have been used to stamp their packaging for butter. Household Dairy Wooden embossed rolling pin used for stamping Van Cooth. 510 mm long. 1910s
Very Good. Some knocks and dents to the wood. A few flakes including a couple to the letters. A bit discoloured. Van Cooth & Co were butter makers in Melbourne in the early 1900s. A great dairy related item. This roller was used for running over the top of the butter in the boxes which were probably 56 lb. When butter boxes were opened the advertising was actually displayed in the butter itself. A learned collector was a butter sampler in the 1960s, when taking butter samples from boxes back then the export boxes had a map of Australia and the butter factory registered number showing in the top of the butter when you opened the box. When taking the butter sample you weren't supposed to in any way deface this and had to actually go in sideways with the butter trier to take the sample. Grade: 7 Estimate: $100 - 150
