Boston / Hop Bitters (Within a Flag). Around shoulder: Hop / Bitters // - // Hop / Bitters // - //. No base mark. Spirits Bitters Applied top. Aqua. 26 oz. 249 mm. 1880s
Very Good. Acid dipped. Annealing marks to inner neck. A few tiny nibbles to the front lip edge. Burst bubble to inner left shoulder is a bit dirty. Remains of some scuffs and scratches which are now shiny from the acid dipping process. A few tiny fisheyes. Small spot of slightly pitted wear to base edge. A few curved streaky lines internally seem to be from making. Plenty of detail to the glass surface, you can see the rear panel has had alterations made to the mould, the side shoulder panels have also been altered, all to remove other embossing from the mould. This would have been a mould for a St. Louis bitters that has been altered for this Boston example. Note that the shoulder embossing differs to the amber example in this auction. Exceptionally rare and desirable bottle! Grade: 7.5 Estimate: $2500 - 3000
