H. A. Medwin / Tongala. (Victoria) Demijohn Impressed Handled stoneware Demijohn. Impressed. Internal Thread. Tan Top. Half Gallon. 260 mm. 1930s
Fair. Heavy crazing throughout. At the shoulder some small pieces have completely come out and the cracks are wider. One crack goes back over the right shoulder. Another is jagged just under the front shoulder and around to the left. Tapping the jar anywhere around the upper half tells you this is quite unstable. At first look I thought it had been stuck back together but it is in fact together in close to original shape but has been hit hard and could easily break apart with not too much force. So BEWARE if you want this in the post! Importantly the Victorian Demijohns book from Ken Arnold and David Bickford mentions only 4 of these were ordered so this one should be well worth getting properly restored. Grade: 5.5 Estimate: $100 - 150
