20 / Cresylic Acid / Poison / 3 Galls / The Property of / The Adelaide / Chemical Works / Company Ltd. No potters stamp. (South Australia) Demijohn Printed Handled stoneware Demijohn. Internal Thread. All White. Black & Red Print. 3 Gallon. 430 without stopper. 1930s
Very Good. The red print did not strike well. Some spots of wear. A bit discoloured in places, heaviest to the rear handle, but some spotty discolouration scattered throughout. A few scratches and minor marks. Smells like it has had phenyle inside, but with cresylic acid being a generic term referring to combinations of both cresols and xylenols along with phenol or various other alkylphenols, this is the odour of the original contents. Little deep scratch to rear. Small thin blowout type mark at shoulder. First we have sold that had this contents, basically a bulk phenyle bottle! Grade: 7.5 Estimate: $100 - 150
