Scarr Bros / London & / Launceston. (United Kingdom, Tasmania). Pot Lid. Cap. Small pot cap with black print on white. 40 mm across. 1880s
Very Good. (7.3). Some discoloured crazing throughout. Dark mark to the second N of London is a making mark. Couple of dark nicks to the face edge. Couple of discoloured hairlines around the lower flange. 4 x 2 mm nibbled flake to bottom of flange, smaller mark or two next to this, though part of this could be from making. Small hairline along bottom of flange from one of these flakes. Some purple looking stain to the inner flange, but this looks like it is on the surface so may soak off. A bit of general discolouration. Now, for the Tasmanian part, London and Launceston, so no way this is Tasmanian? In 1883 Scarr Bros opened premises in Wellington Street, Launceston as manufacturing and importing ironmongers after Mr. Jas. S. Scarr had returned from a visit to England where he joined the firm! I have never seen one of these Tasmanian pot caps before!. Estimate: $400-600
