Alex Ryland / Windsor / Aerated Waters. Base Mark: M. (Victoria). Aerated Water. Codd. Applied top, spun finish. Four way pour Dobson style patent with four dimples. Aqua. 10 oz. 240 mm. 1910s
Alex Ryland opened the Don Cordial Factory in Windsor in very late 1912. He advertised from December of that year through to February 1914 in the Malvern Standard. The Standard ran a small feature on the Cordial Factory and its owner in January 1913 suggesting that Mr Ryland had quite a varied past but had been working in catering, first with Wirth's Circus and then in Melbourne Theatres during the last few years. Indeed it would appear that an advertisement showing Alex Ryland as proprietor of the Lyric Theatre Cafe in 1911 would be the same person. Interestingly the Lyric was basically across the road from the site of the Don Factory. The last mention of the Don Cordial Factory seen thus far was on the 29th September 1914 in a small classified advertisement in the Age looking for a Traveller for the business.
Very Good. (7.7). Some dust and grime amongst the dimples and grooves, this will clean off. Light inner haze, this may clean up a little. 3 x 3 mm nibbled impact surface flake to left rear body. Extremely heavy embossing, there are a few little nibbled impacts and spots of wear, but mostly it is great. Right heel has a tiny flake. Some light scuffs and scratches. Great example of this extremely rare bottle, the first I recall ever being auctioned!
