H Hammon, / Merchant / Creswick. No potters stamp. (Victoria). Spirits. Whisky/Whiskey. Handled stoneware jug. flat sides. Impressed. Quart. 208 mm. 1860s - 1870s
Excellent. (8). What a wonderful piece. Hammon had quite a range of jugs, barrels and demijohns. This one looks to be very early and likely Bendigo Pottery. 13 x 10 mm chip to the left base edge. 6 x 3 mm chip to the top of the right lip. Nibbles and wear to the inner lip. Kiln kiss to the lip, a very big kiln kiss to the left side and a long drip of excess glaze down the right side over a crease made by the potter. Shape and size suggest this would have been specifically a whisky jug (or other spiritous liquor). Estimate: $750-1500
