W. I. Thrower / Trade (Elephant) Mark / Launceston. No potters stamp. (Tasmania). Ginger Beer. Cork Stoppered. Dump. Blue Top. Impressed. 10 oz. 158 mm. 1880s - 1890s
Very Good. (7.4). Tiny glaze flake to upper right lip. 18 x 4 mm sliver along front base edge just off to the left, this is below a glazed over flake, I have a feeling this is a making mark. There is a little flake under the heeel next to this. Little flake at front right base edge is at the end of a slightly scuffed scratch. Rear base edge has a scraped looking mark just through the glaze over about 10 mm, this also looks a bit like it is a making mark. Couple of other minor marks around the base edge. Some fine scratches and minor marks around the body. Upper part of the impression is a bit weak. Lovely example, this has the impression much higher up the body than all other examples that we have sold, this also seems smaller and has a different looking lip. Great, Tasmanian made bottle. Estimate: $300-400
