This jar is the / Private property / of / Long & Barden / Sydney. Potters Stamp: R. Fowler / 1912 / Sydney. Aerated Water Demijohn Stoneware demijohn, two tone, off white body, internal thread. 1 Gallon. 335 mm. 1912
Excellent. There is a shallow glaze flake from the front lip, 7 x 4 mm. A smaller one on the rear lip is 4 x 2 mm, with some other minor wear type marks to the upper lip edge. The outer lip has a ring of wear from where the wire handle has worn the glaze over the years. There is evidence of this demijohn having been painted gold, with a couple of gold patches still remaining, this will come off. Some surface scratches and scuffs to be found on the body, some light crazing. Under the front and again the rear base is a heavy indented mark from the manufacture, adding to the crudity of this piece. There is also some lumps under the glaze and associated glaze blow outs near the rear base, again, these are definitely from manufacture. There is a fine hairline under the base only going about 50 mm in two directions. The original wire handle is in place and in good condition, although rusty. There is no internal thread stopper with this demijohn. This is a nice example of this demijohn. Grade: 8 Estimate: $100 - 150
