Demijohn Table Ale Blob top, internal thread with wire carry handle. Two tone, tan top with off white body and black print. 1 gallon. 333 mm without stopper. 1910s
Very Good. Stopper is not original, it is marked: Australia / Sharpe Bros / New Zealand. It only just fits. The upper lip has three shallow glaze flakes, one is over 5 x 2 mm and has a 16 mm hairline running along the upper lip. Another one is 7 x 4 mm. There is some dirt and grime around the shoulder. Around the shoulder verge where the tan meets the white body there are some shallow flakes, one is 5 x 5 mm, the others are smaller. With the crude manufacture of this piece, these may be pottery imperfections, as there are other similar flakes and blowouts from making to the main body. Down the left side is some crazing or fine glaze hairlines, this is from the making process as well. At the front base is a flake type mark over 12 x 5 mm, this appears to also be from making. A 10 x 5 mm flake under the base. The stamp is blurry on this one. This is a nice and crude piece of pottery, with this demijohn being quite scarce. Grade: 7.8 Estimate: $300 - 400
