Very Good. This beautiful little bottle is very crudely made. Below the lip at the front is a very fine hairline over about 30-40 mm, with a couple of others to the right which are about 20 mm, these are most likely firing hairlines, and are very difficult to see. On the front left near the base is a manufacturing fault in the form of a crude piece of foreign material within the pottery with a hole near it and a couple of very fine hairlines. Under the base at the front around to the right is a series of shallow chips over 45 mm, with the crude sharp edges around this part of the base, and the fact that there are similar glazed over marks, this may well be from making as well. Under the rear base is a small chip, from where the clay would have pulled when removed from the potters wheel. There is a lump of pottery near this which has a hairline next to it curling around up onto the body and along the rear base over about 25 mm. Once again, this is likely from manufacture. This bottle is an odd shape, being narrower at the base than it is at the shoulder. This is a very rare, early bottle from Tasmania, there are several marks on it, but in reality it could be graded higher as many (if not all) of these marks are from the crude manufacturing process. Grade: 7.8 Estimate: $1000 - 1250
