W. Candy / (English Coat of Arms) / 67. George. St. Fitzroy. No makers marks. Household Water Filter Barrel shaped. Salt glaze. Slab applied decoration. 3 Gallon approx. 420 mm. 1870s
Very Good. On the right side lip is a 16 x 13 mm chip. Leading down from this is a crack 105 mm long. On the opposite side is a very fine (and difficult to see) 95 mm long hairline. There are a couple of very small chips on the decoration and to the handles. A few minor flakes off the inner lip. Some wear to the bottom of the tap hole. Wonderful early Melbourne filter - quite possibly made by Dahlke's Filter & Pottery Co. The Greek key toggle marks would aid in ascertaining the pottery that made this superb piece. Grade: 7.25 Estimate: $200 - 300
