Chas. Cole & Co. / Trade (Bird & Fish) Mark / Ginger / Beer / Geelong. Impressed stamp: The Bendigo Pottery / Epsom / Bendigo. Ginger Beer Cork Stoppered Champagne shape. Tan top, white body, black print. 13 oz. 222 mm. 1900s
Good. Actually difficult to grade as this wouldn't be one of the Bendigo Pottery's proudest moments! Glaze is full of impurities and the tan part is quite bubbly and rough. The lip has four chips and marks: At the front lip an 8 x 4 mm chip; A small chip and associated crack to the left side lip that at its largest dimensions cover 10 x 3 mm; Inner right lip has a 5 x 3 mm chip; and finally, the back lip has a small chip and horseshoe fracture over an area of 7 x 7 mm. The underside of the top at the front left has a shallow 6 x 6 mm chip. There are minor marks elsewhere but what most catches the eye are manufacturing marks. Therein lies the rub, this bottle is probably not much worse than the day it was made, it's just that it started life at a disadvantage! Grade: 6.7 Estimate: $30 - 40
