Levy Bros / Melbourne. No potters mark. Household Storage jar Large storage jar with fancy toggled patterns to upper region possibly depicting fern fronds. Unusual grey colour. 1 gallon. 271 mm. 1880s
Excellent. An amazing piece of pottery, we have never seen anything like this unique piece before. This is almost certainly made by an Australian Pottery, the toggle marks could possibly be used to identify the potter. This piece has been painted in the past with white paint, there are remnants of this paint remaining. On the left rear side is the finest of white paint lines that appears to be a fine hairline in the glaze. Without the white highlight, this would not even be noticeable. It is Y shaped over 15 cm with a 4 cm branch. It is very fine as mentioned, it looks like a very fine line of paint that has been painted on. The glaze is very speckled with flecks of dark streaks throughout. Simply an amazing piece of pottery, a once in a lifetime opportunity here! Grade: 8 Estimate: $500 - 750
