Dr L, L, Smith's / Colonial / Ointment / Bourke Street East / Melbourne. Pot Lid Ointment Small lid with black print on white lid. 53 mm diameter. 1850s
Poor. Extensively restored. It is quite difficult to tell what is original on this lid. The right hand side of the lid seem to be original from the S down to ne of Melbourne, including the end of the word Ointment and the end of East on the next line. On the left side of the lid, the Dr L, L, appears original, then separately the Me of Melbourne. The rest of the writing appears to be restored. The underside of the lid is wholly painted over, so the extent of restoration is impossible to detect here. This is simply a gap filler, this is an extremely rare and significant lid which plays an important part in Melbourne's history. These are very early lids, highly sought after and valuable. This is your chance to obtain one at a fraction of the price of a good one. Grade: N/A Estimate: $200 - 300
