S. Mansfield / Trade (Cassowary) Mark / Maryborough. Potters stamp: Murray & Co / 2 / Glasgow. Ginger Beer Cork Stoppered Light blue top. Off white body. Black print. 10 oz. 204 mm. 1890s
Very Good. Upper left lip has a small 5 x 3 mm spot of glaze wear. Rear lip has a 10 mm hairline mostly along upper lip, a small end to it comes down the lip a couple of millimetres. This is quite fine and hard to see. The inner lip has some surface pinpricks and odd wear to the glaze, this appears to be built up on the surface, and not worn through the glaze, like it has been made this way. 4 x 4 mm glaze flake to front left mid neck has a couple of very short scratches coming from it. Tiny flake to front shoulder edge. Similar tiny flake to rear shoulder. One or two other little pinpricks to the glaze to the neck. Light glaze scuffs and scratches on close inspection. Some minor discolouration. One of the best ginger beers in Australia. Along with the Dempsey Dog, these are rated as the pinnacle in ginger beer collecting in this country. This example is in fine condition, not to be confused with the several damaged or repaired examples that are known. There are very few known in this condition. Grade: 7.7 Estimate: $7500 - 10000
