Blackwood & Co / (Coat of arms) / London // By Royal Letters / Patent / Syphon Bottle. No base mark. Ink Glass Ground lip with pouring spout. 12 vertical panels. Cobalt. 4 oz. 130 mm. 1870s
Very Good. Sliver chips down 7 mm and across 5 mm to the outer and under pouring lip, the very tip of this lip is chipped. This is a very common fault with these. Some minor flakes to the remainder of the ground top from making. The syphon hole to the rear has been heavily ground, a bit of overgrinding has touched the glass below this. Again, this would have been from manufacture to remove any sharp glass bits. Scratch to embossing on rear shoulder. Some inner dirt or light haze, may clean out? Interestingly, the mould had Bottl only originally by the look of it, with a little e squeezed in afterwards. Lovely swirls of darker blue glass within the lighter blue glass. Great piece, not often seen these days! Grade: 7.3 Estimate: $150 - 200
