Armstrong & Co / Hobarton. No potters stamp. Ginger Beer Impressed All white. Impressed. 10 oz. 163 mm. 1850s
Good. The lip and neck are near perfect with only making marks to be found. Some possible very light wear to the shoulder. To the right of the stamp is a vertical dark mark that looks to be a discoloured scratch, there is another to the right of the bottle. The left rear body has an 85 mm hairline that does expand to a crack in the middle region which can be felt with the nail easily. Front right base edge has a pottery blowout that has some dirt in it. Shallow flake under rear base is likely a pottery pull from making. Couple of pottery blowouts under the base. A very rare and early Tasmanian bottle, the spelling of Hobarton is very rarely seen on any bottles, this was one of the traditional names at the time, the other being Hobart Town. Grade: 6.7 Estimate: $500 - 750
