Ford's Cherry / Wm Ford & Co / (Lion using Mortar and Pestle) / (Geo. Swift.) / (J. H. Reed.) / Trade Mark. / 67, Swanston St Melbourne / Tooth Paste. (Victoria) Pot Lid Tooth Paste Domed lid, black print on blue. 80 mm diameter. 1890s
Excellent. A superb example of a superb lid. The gold border is fully intact with some minor wear. There is a surface scratch up from the D of Ford in the middle. A white spot near the second O of Tooth is underglaze from making. Next to the T next to this is a small rough spot which is a glaze mark from making. A spot of surface stain next to the E of paste. The bottom of the flange has two tiny nicks, these are directly opposing each other and are likely stilt marks from the kiln. This has crazing throughout, this is a little discoloured in places. One or two spots of discolouration otherwise. A superb example of a superb lid, you won't get much better than this. This does not come with a base. Grade: 8.6 Estimate: $5000 - 6000
