Bellarmine Jug. Bearded face to neck. Shield to front body. Wine Stoneware Wide bodied stoneware jug. Handle. Salt Glaze. Pint. 223 mm. 1600s
Repaired. The mid body from the right side of the shield around to the mid left has been filled and/or overpainted as well. There are some cracks around - actually looks like it has been in a few pieces and put back together - and these cracks have some fairly soft glue in or over them. We've had the borescope inside to check it but the inside is full of mud and the like so hard to tell much more. Any other marks are typical of this type of item with crude small chips and the like. Still a great early piece of pottery with really nice glaze and applied decoration. Grade: 0 Estimate: $300 - 400
