Plaster Match Holder and Striker in shape of a barrel with Shamrock / XXX / 3397 at each end of barrel. Around the base is written on each side: Ask For / Shamrock Ale. (Victoria) Beer Advertising Plaster advertising matchbook holder and striker. 195 mm high. 1890s
Poor. An item of extreme significance, this is from the Shamrock Brewery in Abbotsford, Victoria. Shamrock Ale was available from 1887 to 1907. A superb piece, it is a little worse for wear. The plaster is weathered. The barrel is not too bad with a few flakes and some wear. Print on one side is clear, the other side is a bit harder to see. Around the base the Ask for words are deep and clear, the Shamrock Ale along the bottom edge however is in varying states of disrepair from hard to read to practically missing. This section is quite chipped and flaked, and is still flaking as well. This piece is quite chalky, and as stated flaking at the bottom still, so some remedial works will need to be done to stabilise this unique piece of history. Grade: N/A Estimate: $200 - 300
