N. D / T. Field / Potter / Sydney / Ja. 1849. (New South Wales) Ginger Beer Impressed Dump shape, impressed, salt glaze. 13 oz. 158 mm. 1849
Very Good. Some very fine and minor upper lip wear. Some fine shoulder wear, a flake to front shoulder is from making as it has glaze over it. Some fine wear around base edge. Nibbles and flakes to the relatively sharp base edge. Right rear has a hairline that is discoloured curving up about 30 mm. Under the base this goes across only a short distance and joins another really fine hairline that goes across the base. There is another on the other side under the base only. The base is glazed as well. A few little spots of body wear. Generally this has a lovely shiny glaze, the impressions are strong, this is a superb example of an extremely rare and important bottle. Attributed to N. Dunn. Being a dated Field is significant in its own right, but to have the initials as well is an exceptional rarity. One sold some years ago through Lancaster auctions in the $8,000 region, this same bottle sold a few years ago through Lancaster auction for $5,000, and now this exact same bottle is on offer in this auction. Not sure if there are others out there, but these three are one and the same bottle. Grade: 7.4 Estimate: $$5,000.00 - $6,000.00
