J. Quigley / Lismore. No makers mark. (New South Wales) Aerated Water Torpedo Applied top. Aqua. 7 oz. 182 mm. 1880s
Very Good. Nibbled impact shallow scraped flake to upper lip. Fisheye around from this. Lip has a coating of lacquer on it which is flaking in places. Initially I thought this might be over a resin repair but I cannot find any filled chips. Also, I have just noticed the coating near the base point as well, so I would suggest this entire bottle was coated at some stage years ago when it was popular to do so to shine bottles up a bit. The emphasis being a bit here as the bottle is quite shiny anyway. Front left neck has a spot of deep wear, down from this is a scuffed area with a couple of spots of wear amongst it. Just to the left rear on the neck is an impact mark with a short shallow fracture from it. Some inner stain in places. Some scuff and scratches to the wide part of the body. A few tiny fisheyes and impact marks scattered around. Flake to R of Lismore, some minor wear to some of the other well embossed letters. Quite a rare little torpedo bottle. Grade: 7.4 Estimate: $300 - 400
