Cherry Tooth Paste / (Overglaze coloured cherries and leaves) / Unequalled for / Beautifying the Teeth. Pot lid Tooth Paste Round domed lid with raised edge. Blue print on white, overglaze coloured cherries & leaves, gold border. 78 mm diameter. 1870s
Very Good. We sold one of these beauties in Auction 6 - at the time I suggested I had not seen another. Well, here is another. Interestingly, both were found in Melbourne at 1870s sites. A little minor surface rust near edge in the lower left region. A few scratches to the face. Overglaze colouration on leaves is brown, probably would have been green to start with? It has flaked in two small places. The cherries are light red. Gold leaf is in good nick. Underneath there is some rust and stain to the lower flange. There are four chips to the bottom of the flange and the inner flange. Smallest is only 3 x 3 mm. Then a 12 x 3 mm sliver along the thin flange bottom. 12 x 4 mm chip next to rust also to bottom of flange and then a long 23 mm flaked type chip mostly on inner flange. Tiny nick to outer rim on underside. Couple of other tiny nicks. A wonderful looking lid, this does not come with a base. Grade: 7 Estimate: $500 - 750
