Cherry Tooth Paste / (Overglaze coloured cherries and leaves) / Unequalled for / Beautifying the Teeth. Pot lid Tooth Paste Round domed lid with raised edge. Blue print on white, overglaze coloured cherries & leaves, gold border. 78 mm diameter. 1870s
Excellent. A little impact on the bottom of the flange with a 15 mm long hairline (and another 15 mm long hairline on the inside from that). Some crazing and discolouration in a few spots. There are some little flakes and other marks on the bottom of the flange. The face and colours on this lid are incredible and almost the entire gold band is intact. Great coloured lid, we have never seen this beautiful variation to the cherries lid before! This does not come with a base. This is the description we had on this exact lid in Auction 6 when we sold it to the current vendor. We have since sold another example in Auction 27, both of which were sourced from 1870s sites in Melbourne. Having not seen these early lids anywhere else, is it possible they were made for a Melbourne company? Grade: 8.5 Estimate: $750 - 1000
