General Motors / Friendly (GMH logo) Service / Dealer // General Motors / Friendly (GMH logo) Service / Dealer. (Wagga Wagga Service Centre, New South Wales) Signs GMH Double sided perspex illuminated sign. About 880 mm diameter. 1950s
Very Good. Synonymous today with car manufacturing within Australia, it was way back in 1948 that the first Australian-made Holden came off the production lines: the Holden 48/215, otherwise known as an FX. To coincide with the release of the FX a new logo was developed by GMH for the automotive dealers across the country, and double-sided tin signs were produced, along with large double-sided Perspex illuminated signs such as this beauty that was used at the Wagga Service Centre in New South Wales. This would have to be one of the best remaining examples of this significant sign linked to our first home-grown vehicle. The electrical cable supplying the light has been cut. Original hanging brackets in place, the wire in place is a more recent addition for hanging in the vendors garage. Perspex is scuffed to outer edge from around the G down to the E on one side. Some other minor scuffs to this edge around the circumference. Some scratches to the face, a few are deep as well. Great colours, with the design clearly being under the perspex it is well protected. The opposite side is also very good, the red is a little faded but still very solid. Couple of minor scuffs to the outer edge again. A few scratches to the face, relatively minor marks really. The original outer bracket is really good as well, some scratches and a little wear in places. An amazing item all round, I only know of one other sale with one side in poor condition, and that was $21,000! Once in a lifetime opportunity here! Oh, and this is not for post, winning bidder will need to arrange pick up or courier. Also in this sale is the Spare Parts sign from the same service centre. Viewing can be arranged by appointment. Grade: N/A Estimate: $10000 - 15000
