A. B. Co Ltd. Base marks: S. Gladwin / Sheffield / Embassy / 2265 / Hard Soldered.. Metalware. Cup Holder. Silver plated, hard soldered cup holder. 105 mm. 1926-1936
Very Good. (N/A). Some scratches and minor knocks and marks. Vendor suggested these were hybrid holders! However, the maker, Sam Gladwin was not even born until 1884, and so by the time he got around to making this at his Embassy Works between 1926 and 1936, it would not have been for hybrids! The number 2265 seems to signify that it is in fact a cup holder. The mystery though, what does A. B. Co Ltd stand for? Being sourced from Adelaide, I am fantasising that it could be The Adelaide Brewing Co., Ltd. which was around in the same time frame in the 1930s! However, absolutely no evidence supports that! This does remain a very interesting item though with a different makers mark to the other one in this auction.. Estimate: $100-150
