Sold for A$10,550

G. H. Bennett / (G. H. B within a Flag) / Richmond. Base Mark: B. (Victoria) Household Cordial Applied top, tooled finish. Bulged out shoulder. Bright Emerald Green. 26 oz. 245 mm. 1900s

Very Good. Rear upper lip has a nibbled sliver flake over 25 mm. A small shallow upper lip bruise is at one end of this. Outer rear lip has some chips and nibbles over about 18 x 8 mm, some further lip edge nibbles around from this. One end of the upper lip sliver is a chip over about 13 x 3 mm. There are some remains of the capsule around the lip and upper neck, interestingly, some of this is within the chipped area showing that this bottle was re-used after the chipping had occurred! 18 mm pitted scuffed scratch to lower front left neck has a small shallow bruise at one end. Front bulged shoulder has a very shallow flake at the end of a 30 mm scratch. Inner dirt will soak out. Short discoloured scratch below the second T of Bennett. Shallow scuffed scratch to the right and below this. A few minor scuffs and scratches. Wonderful, original shiny condition, a good soaking clean will leave a great looking example with the lip chipping at the rear. Importantly, this is an exceedingly rare and desirable cordial bottle, the first to ever be publicly auctioned! A unique shape, a unique colour and exceedingly rare, this is up there amongst not just the best cordial bottles in the country, but one of the best bottles in general! The two others that are known are a different, darker colour than this bright light green example. Grade: 7.1 Estimate: $3000 - 4000
