Herring & Co / Adelaide (upside down) / T. Field / Potter / Sydney. (South Australia). Ginger Beer. Cork Stoppered. Dump shape. Cork stoppered. Impressed. Salt Glaze. 10 oz. 161 mm. 1850s
Good. (6.7). 10 x 8 mm chip to rear outer lip. 8 x 10 mm chip to outer front lower lip. Wear around shoulder with a few small flakes as well. 22 x 13 mm flat flake under front heel. 8 x 5 mm flake right next to this. 5 x 5 mm flake to left of this. Shallow glaze flake to left rear base edge, some fine flakes under the heel here over about 20-25 mm. 10 x 2 mm flake to right base edge. Shallow glaze flake to front right heel. A little wear around the upper impression, which most interestingly is upside down. Good impression except for the word Sydney which is quite light. Some spots of wear around the body. An extremely rare and sought after bottle, we did sell an example in Auction 52, but not like this unique example with an upside down stamp! Estimate: $3000-4000
