Railways guard's lamp with original coloured glass revolving lens (red, white, blue), original reflector and wick. (New South Wales) 157 mm across the base. 1900s
Very Good. (N/A). Is marked 7282A near the rim and has 1941 to the handle, presumably the date. The lens has some grime and scratches. Corrosion throughout. Black paint has flaked with scratches and flakes. The blue and red lenses are still in place, not sure if there was meant to be a clear lens as well, or whether this was always simply open to produce a clear light? Fantastic item overall with all the components still in places. I have called this a NSW railway lamp as we sold one in Auction 51 which was actually marked with NSW, it was otherwise exactly the same, and came from the same vendor! Estimate: $150-200
