J. O. Ladd // Codd's Patent / Sole Agents / Barnetts & Foster / London. N / 24. Base Mark: J. O. L. (Adelaide, South Australia). Aerated Water. Codd. Applied blob top. Narrow neck. Traditional one way pour codd patent with two tear drops. Flat foot. Aqua. 10 oz. 218 mm. 1870s
Very Good. (7.2). Stained throughout, but no external etching associated, not sure about the inside, if there is etching it is not deep. Superb and crude lip. 11 x 15 mm flake to right rear near base edge is shallow, in the overall scheme of things, this is minor and not at all visible from the front anyway. Some little spots of rust. Tiny nick to rear outer lip. Some fisheyes and impact marks, these are all very small and minor. Some scuffs and scratches, not necessarily just on the surface, but not overly deep either! Nice embossing, there is some nibbled marks to it in places on the high points. Tiny surface nick to heel. An amazing item, one of Australia's earliest codds from the 1870s and extremely rare, this is the first we have seen for public sale. Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to obtain such a rare and early item in decent original and unpolished condition. Estimate: $3000-4000
