Wm / Walters / Goldclift (On applied seal). Round pontil to base. (Goldcliff, Wales, United Kingdom). Early Glass. Wine. Applied string rim. Applied seal. Wide bodied mallet shape. Black. Pontil. 1 Quart or so. 235 mm. 1770s
Excellent. (8). Tiny nick to rear lip. Crude making marks otherwise around the lip. Band of wear around the shoulder, this is at its widest to the right and rear. Similar band of wear around the flared out region near the base, again heaviest to right and rear, though there is a small deeper spot of wear near front base edge. Usage wear to the heel, which is crudely formed with a wavy appearance. Some scratches and the odd scuff mark to be found. Little nibbled mark to bottom left edge of the seal. Some spots of wear around the rim of the seal as well. Greatly struck seal with the old English style of writing, what looks like Goldclift is actually Goldcliff, which is a village in Wales. Great piece of history, I can't see any record of any other examples in my internet searches for this bottle, needless to say, it is the first we have sold. Estimate: $1000-1500
