(Beach scene with a blonde woman and a dark haired man sitting, brunette woman running up the beach) Tooth's 'KB' Lager Cool & Refreshing! Note below: Tooth's has received only one complaint about its pub art. It happened in the mid-1930s when one of Roy Rousel's artists painted a beach scene destined for the outside of a Bondi hotel. As a guide he used a newspaper photograph of a particularly striking young woman in a bathing costume. The painting was duly erected outside the pub and close to the beach. One day a woman passing on a tram looked up to find her daughters' image beaming back at her from behind the glass on the pub wall. According to the story they still tell around the brewery, the hysterical woman leapt off the tram and created an almightly fuss. The publican dispatched her to Tooth's brewery at Broadway where she accosted the advertising men. In the end it seems the irate mother was placated by the payment of a modelling fee for her daughter. The young lady was to maintain her beaming smile for the next thirty years until the painting was replaced by a perfectly bland panel which simply said "KB". (Not for post. Arrangements will have to be made by winning bidder for pickup or courier delivery) (Tooth & Co Ltd., Sydney, New South Wales). Beer. Advertising. Advertising Sign 1178 x 667 mm. 1970s
