T. Field / Potter / Sydney. (New South Wales) Ginger Beer, Cork Stoppered Salt glaze. Impressed. 10 oz. 165 mm 1850s
Very Good (7). My initial impression was that a chunk of the lip has been repaired. The reason being that it is highly glossy and has curved edges. This is over 45 x 18 mm. Around this the glaze is flaked and worn. It really is hard to tell as it does look like some original pottery amongst this as well. The right rear shoulder has a similar mark over 20 x 15 mm. 20 x 11 mm patch to mid front right body is another shiny patch. 25 x 3 mm sliver to rear base edge. Smaller flake to front base heel. Large lump next to potters stamp from making. Potters stamp itself is poorly struck and mostly hard to read. Interesting variable glaze on this one. We have been reliably informed by the vendor that he bought this off someone who got it straight out of the ground. It was still caked with clay when he bought it. The shiny glaze spots are just unusual glaze spots. Estimate: $30-50
