"The project of establishing a fruit preserving, jam, sauce and pickle works in Beechworth will be carried into effect and a start made within a few days. Mr. P. J. McBride, who is a competent maker of jams, sauces, ect., arrived in Beechworth on Monday and met Mr. A. A. Billson, who first launched the proposal, Dr. Skinner, and other gentlemen who are interested in seeing such a manufactory established in Beechworth. Mr. McBride inspected the premises which it is proposed to use, namely, the Spring Creek Brewery and Cordial Works, which he pronounced in every way adapted for the purpose, and he thought a start could be made within a very few days. For the purpose of facilitating the operations of the new company certain amended proposals were submitted by Mr. A. A. Billson and approved. Under these proposals no rent will be charged for the premises, the owners, the Anglo-Australian Brewery Company, being prepared to take five hundred pid-up shares in consideration of providing the premises and plantm and handing over its sauce, pickle etc., department and providing half expenses of management. With such liberal terms the new company will be placed on a most favorable footing, and will be abel to make a start on a much smaller amount of capital. We hope very shortly to be able to announce that the new company's brand of Pomona sauces, pickles, jams, etc., is in general demand throughout the district.". Estimate: $200-250
