Prize Dripstone / (Australian Coat of Arms) / Advance Australia / Filter / Melbourne. Potters Stamp: Cornwell's / Pottery / Brunswick. Impressed 5 to upper rim. Household Water Filter 5 Gallons. Off white stoneware water filter with applied slab seals for embossing and trade mark. 425 mm, with no lid.. 1890s
Very Good. Has a fine hairline extending from a brown spot in the pottery under the handle on the right hand side, down about 265 mm to the very edge of the Melbourne slab seal. There are a few minor flakes to the outer edge of the lip. One at the front is the largest, this is only glaze depth, 12 x 5 mm. Both handles are perfect, they have a series of 8 dots impressed into the end of the handles. The upper slab seal has a glaze flake on the lower edge in the middle, 5 x 3 mm. The coat of arms is amazingly detailed, crisp and clear, the only blemish is a glaze flake on the knee of the kangaroo, 2 x 1 mm. The filter slab seal has a few small glaze flakes, to on the right hand side and one which may be a blow out from manufacture on the right hand side. These are tiny! The Melbourne slab seal is fine apart from the earlier mentioned hairline. Below this above the tap hole is a glaze hairline running from the left hand side of the Melbourne slab seal across the front to the upper right hand side of the tap hole. You need to look closely to spot this one. The tap hole has two minor glaze flakes from the outer surface, there is a shallow chip under the base below this, 5 x 3 mm. There is some fine surface scratching and scuffing evident on close inspection. This is a superb and imposing piece of pottery from Brunswick with plenty of character and would be a great addition to any collection. This filter does not come with a lid. NOTE: Postage will be high for a piece of this size and weight. Please factor that in if from interstate. Pick up can be arranged if so desired at no charge. Grade: 7.6 Estimate: $200 - 250
