White's / Dripstone / Filter / Melbourne. Impressed 1G to upper rim. No potters mark. Household Water Filter 1 Gallon. Off white stoneware water filter with four embossed applied slab seals. 295 mm, not including lid.. 1890s
Excellent. There is a hairline to the rear from the top down about 60 mm. There is also a fine hairline / glaze crack to the left hand top above the handle, about 45 mm, this is only on the outside. This filter has plenty of crazing, and has some minor rust stains. There is a fine white residue around the embossing, looks like it has been painted at some stage, this does come off. There is also some crude folds / splits in the pottery on the slab seals, these are all manufacturing faults and add to the crudity of this filter. The filter itself is a beautiful example. The lid looks good when in place in one direction. It is damaged on one side in the way of a section covering about 140 mm which has been broken off and crudely reglued. The original pieces are glued into place, but there is some areas of chipping where there are missing pieces. It fulfils the purpose for now and looks fine from one side. NOTE: Postage will be high for a piece of this size and weight. Please factor that in if from interstate. Pick up can be arranged if so desired at no charge. Grade: 8.1 Estimate: $100 - 125
