Sold for A$100

No embossing. 10 bulbous "petals" around base, flat label area, 10 similar "petals" around shoulder. Three rings at base of neck, straight section, three more rings, then straight section to crude applied lip. Ground pontil to base. Goldfields Salad Oil Applied lip. Club or Banded Oil. Pale green aqua. 5 oz. 237 mm. 1840s-1850s

Very Good. Lip is rough in spots, some possible flakes but partly just the way it was made with crude folds in the glass. Also a crude mould mark in the middle of the body with some extra glass stuck in the side. Glass is dull all over and stained internally but no heavy leaching or the like to report. There is some light scratching to the external surface. Bottle stands with a heavy lean because of its crudity. Nice solid example of an early goldfields bottle. Grade: 7 Estimate: $150 - 200
