Fowler. (4 mm stamp with smaller ER, 5th of 7 Fowler stamps recorded by Hardy & Cross in their convict period bottle list) Ginger Beer Convict Convict era crude stoneware bottle. Grey with some brown patches. 10 oz. 185 mm. 1840s

Good. There are two chips on the inner lip. One is 9 x 4 mm and up to 2 mm deep, the other is 6 x 4 mm and only 1 mm deep around the curve of the lip. There is a chip or kiln kiss on the shoulder that is 20 x 15 mm and around 2-3 mm deep in the middle. The very last part of the letter R of the stamp just goes into this mark. There are a couple of other obvious kiln marks on the side and back shoulder. The front base has another chip or kiln kiss that is 20 x 10 mm and up to 5 mm deep at the very bottom. All over the surface are rub marks and some wear. Nice example of a crude early Australian made bottle. Grade: 6.5 Estimate: $600 - 800
