Cherry Tooth Paste / Prepared by / (Ornate coat of arms with shield bearing words (Honi Soit Qui Maly Pense)) / Dieu et mon droit / Chemists / Simpson & Davenport, Melbourne Pot Lid Tooth Paste Black print on light blue lid. Round. 80 mm diameter. 1890s
Excellent. Superb lid in all aspects. The trade mark is amazingly detailed with the lion and unicorn. A few very light surface scratches can be seen with the light reflecting off the glaze. Some crazing can be found on the face. Small spot where glaze has missed slightly on the front flange at 6 o'clock. The under flange is free from any chips. There is some discoloured crazing. One small impact mark less than 1 mm in all dimensions, this has a slightly darker curved line coming from it which may be a small discoloured hairline, this is on the bottom edge of the upper flange between 10 and 11 o'clock. There is a base with this one, there are two chips to the bottom flared out bit, one spot of glaze wear, upper flange where lid would sit has a small chip and then another spot of glaze flaking and finally the upper part has a small flake as well. Grading for lid only. Superb piece with the lighter coloured background making the black print really stand out. Don't miss this stunning and rare lid in superb condition, they don't come much better than this. Grade: 8.8 Estimate: $2000 - 2500
