Registration Diamond is dated 24th August, 1865. Pot Lid Tooth Paste Pale mauve background, green outer area, black print with gold band. Round. 78 mm diameter. 1860s-1870s
Very Good. Light scratches to the glaze surface. Outer protruding edge has some minor wear to the upper part. Gold leaf border is mostly intact. Crazing evident throughout. Hairline to flange edge at 9 o'clock, about 7 mm long. Fine glaze hairlines around the lid under the flange, most probably from manufacture of the lid. Still has some tape on it where the previous owner had it taped to the base. One shallow flake on the inner flange underneath which is 8 x 5 mm but very shallow. 20 mm scratch under the lid, plus two shorter ones near this at an angle. This comes with a base, which has a chip to the top of it, 11 x 5 mm. A few rust spots and some minor wear to the edge near the top of the base. Grading for lid only. A superb and early pictorial Melbourne lid. Grade: 7.9 Estimate: $750 - 1000
