Black ceramic stand. Impressed underneath: C. Crowley / Manufacturer / 11 Little Lonsdale St / Melbourne. Miscellaneous Dressmaking stand Dark brown stoneware item, glazed to upper sides with a darker brown or black glaze. Hole in middle from top to inside the indented base. 125 mm diameter. 1900s
Good. There are numerous chips and fractures to the upper part of the raised edge around the shoulder region, looks to be rather fragile in this area. There are some glaze scratches. Also a flake to the glaze or two. Some rust marks. A most unusual Melbourne piece! Originally we were thinking this was an insulator of some sort, but a quick bit of research shows they were suppliers of models and show stands, and so this is likely the base of a model or show stand.
